Mariners Make a Big Splash - April 2007
Swimmers from Greenwich Borough Mariners Swimming Club swam to success by winning the Barbara Moore Tr
ophy Gala at Gravesend & Northfleet.
The gala is for 10 to 13 year-olds and comprises individual and relay events and was held last month.
This includes a squadron relay race where 16 swimmers – two girls and two boys of each age group swimming alternatively in ascending order of age.
The squad won the gala by 15 points.
Youngsters Swim into Top London League - December 2006
Kids from Greenwich Borough Mariners (GBM) swimming club will be diving into London Division One next season after winning promotion.
The swimmers, competing in the National Speedo Swimming League for ages nine and up, won enough points over three galas to secure the rise.
Each gala round comprises of 50 events and in the last round, held in Stevenage, GBM needed to continue a string of winds to secure promotion.
However, on the day the club were a relay swimmer short and without a replacement, they would forfeit valuable points.
But a replacement was found and victory by a single point was just enough to win promotion.
