London Regional Championships 2009

50m Sprint Gala 2009
12th July 2009

A small group of GBM swimmers participated in this Sprint Gala at Crystal Palace and a number of Top 8 places were achieved. Medals were awarded to:

1st Place
Natasha Sinha (12) 50m Butterfly
Chanel Robinson (11) 50m Breaststroke
3rd Place
Maximilian Kong (14) 50m Butterfly

Age Group Championships 2009
6th - 7th, 13th - 14th June 2009

The newly re-opened Crystal Palace provided a splendid venue for this year’s London Championships.  And if national times are to be got, Crystal Palace is the place to get them.  The first weekend of the event started with a burst of energy with 3 new national times and a number of medals to boot.

Many congratulations to Emma Mitchell who qualified for the Nationals 100m Freestyle; Neema Nyaulingo who got her National Qualifying Time in 100m Freestyle and Holly Wylie who qualified for the Nationals in 200m Backstroke (click here to view the Nationals Section). The PBs were thick and fast and it was clear that the few training sessions that the swimmers had at Crystal Palace prior to the championships paid off. Well done to all the swimmers who took part many who competed at the regional event for the first time.

Special mention to the swimmers who qualified for the Finals but finished outside the medal places – Leanne Hennessy (13) 100m Backstroke & 200m Backstroke; Joshua Ling (14) 200m Backstroke; Emma Mitchell (12) 100m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke & 200m Freestyle; Neema Nyaulingo (11) 100m Freestyle & 100m Backstroke; Natasha Sinha (12) 200m Freestyle; Joan Tello Alvarez (13) 100m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke & 200m Breaststroke;  Holly Wylie (13) 100m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke, 100m Breaststroke; 200m Backstroke, 200m IM & 200m Breaststroke.

Youth Championships 2009
2nd - 3rd May 2009

The first competitive swimming event at Crystal Palace following its re-opening after nearly two years of refurbishment work; saw a handful of GBM swimmers “testing the waters”. All swam well and gained a number of PB’s and the following positions:

1st Place
Laura Porritt (16+) 100m Butterfly
2nd Place
Michael Gregory (16+) 50m Butterfly & 50m Backstroke
Laura Porritt (16+) 200m Butterfly
3rd Place
Michael Gregory (16+) 200m IM

Michael Gregory also qualified for the finals in 100m Butterfly & 100m Freestyle and came 4th in both; 50m Freestyle and came 7th and 200m Freestyle but declined the place.

Ben Duxbury (15/16) qualified for the final in 200m Breaststroke but declined the place.
