| As GBM came in the top 3, GBM have been promoted for the 2010 season | ||||||||||
GBM went into the final round lying in fourth place. With only the top 3 clubs gaining promotion and up against the strength of Camden Swiss Cottage and Chelmsford swimming clubs; we knew that only a gargantuan effort would be enough to get us into the coveted promotion zone. To further hamper us we had a few key swimmers missing and even on poolside there were several ailing, injured and tired members of the team.
At the first reading of the results GBM lay in a disappointing 6th place but the swimmers were not downhearted; they rose to the challenge and as the gala progressed we moved to 5th, then 4th and going into the final relay events we had reached third place. However, a mixed bag of relay results left it uncertain right until the final announcement whether we had made it or not.
Well, we did it - so next year we will be competing in Division 1!
Many thanks and congratulations to all the swimmers who took part in any of the 3 rounds. Every single point was important and there was always a wonderful sense of team spirit. Without the amazing support of the parents and the poolside camaraderie it may not have been possible.
Well done to all.

After a disappointing slip back to third place in round one and with only 6 points separating the first and third places; GBM swimmers came out in force at Barnet Copthall on Sunday and truly excelled in the water to win the Round 2 gala in great style. There were many really excellent swims, not least from some of our younger swimmers, for some of whom it was their first gala experience.
The sense of team spirit and support on poolside, and from the parents, was second to none. Thank you to all who made the journey, battling through the Highbury traffic, some arriving direct from other galas at Coventry and Crystal Palace and others missing family events. It was a great team effort and one to be proud of.
We must now look forward to the third and final round on June 28th and let’s see what we can achieve…
